Russ Bassett History

In 1958, Russ Bassett purchased the Whittier Typewriter company and began also selling office furniture-retail.  In October of 1960, Russ Bassett incorporated the Russ Bassett Company to manufacture simple desk-top organizers for the office furniture industry locally.

Over the years, Whittier Typewriter became Bassett Office Furniture and then Bassett Business Interiors. About 15 – 20 years ago the Bassett Family sold the retail operation to two employees from Steelcase and the name was changed to the California Business Interiors. The company later merged with Pacific Business Interiors and today operates as Tangram Interiors, one of the largest Steelcase dealers on the west coast.

On the Russ Bassett side, Mike Dressendorfer was employed by Russ Bassett Company as President when the family decided to sell.  Mike was able to put together a group of investors and they purchased the company in April 1987.  Mike Dressendorfer now serves as Chief Executive Officer of Russ Bassett.

Today, the company is in its 48th year of operation with the current ownership in place for the last 21 years.
